The question of power came into mind relating to human performance and got me thinking about ‘what makes someone powerful, what deems someone powerless and what works best?’   Perhaps it lies somewhere in the middle?

Powerful people generally know where they’re going in life, what they need to do to get there and when they’re going to arrive.  However, some people can be overly dominant in striving to be powerful.  They’ll stand on their ‘soap-box’ and shout out to the world “look at me”, which can be intimidating to others.  Confidence certainly adds to their presence and their ability to project their position of power, but how are they perceived?

When we feel powerless, it’s hard to gain momentum.  It’s like all the energy in our internal battery has drained away and can leave us in a stuck position, feeling powerless.  So how can we break free of this internal feeling of feeling powerless and unable to move?  Having movement and momentum with a sense of direction and purpose helps you start to regain power.   Movement could be going for a walk, finding a different environment, seeing something from a different perspective, having a conversation with someone – essentially anything that makes you feel better.  In order to create momentum and feel more powerful and in charge of your situation, you need to come up with a plan of action.  A 3 step Action Plan is simple and quick to determine.  In some instances you just need to slow down, give your mind some space and time to consider your 1,2, 3 Action Plan, then get to work on it.

Not everybody needs to shout about their power but being quietly powerful through determining your own personal identity, set of values and personal goals, enables you to arrive at your own destination, with your own level of confidence and your integrity intact.
