What We Think About Shapes Us

The Power of What You Think About

One of the most powerful activators for success is simple but often overlooked: what you think about.

When I work with clients, I often teach affirmations as a tool, but today I want to focus more broadly on the impact of our thoughts. As human beings, we have a natural bias toward the negative. We tend to anticipate what might go wrong rather than imagining what could go right. This “scarcity mindset” is deeply ingrained, it’s part of our survival instinct, but in business and life, it often holds us back.

Here’s why it matters:

What we think about shapes what we look for. If you spend your time expecting failure, your brain will actively search for evidence to confirm that belief. You’ll spot every small setback as “proof” that things aren’t working out.

And it doesn’t stop there. Our thoughts shape our actions. If you’re operating from a scarcity mindset, you’ll act cautiously, hold back opportunities, and miss chances to grow. And what you do repeatedly becomes what you get: more scarcity, more frustration, more of the same.

But the reverse is also true. When you think about abundance, when you expect things to go well, you start noticing opportunities around you. You see possibilities instead of problems. That shift in perspective leads you to act differently. You take steps aligned with growth, progress, and success. And, over time, that’s exactly what you create: abundance.

Of course, this isn’t easy. Negativity comes naturally to most of us. That’s why it takes practice and intention to shift your mindset. The next time you catch yourself slipping into doubt or scarcity thinking, pause and consciously reframe the thought. Instead of “This probably won’t work,” try: “This has every chance of being successful—and I’m going to give it my best.”

This isn’t about blind optimism. It’s about training your brain to focus on what’s possible, so your actions and results align with the success you want.

Remember:

  • What you think about influences what you look for.
  • What you look for shapes how you act.
  • What you do determines what you get.

Choose abundance, and you’ll create more of it in your life and business.

Your thoughts create your reality.
