On every single day, big things happen and on every single day History is written and yet the really important things to you, the things that make a difference in your life will be the little things.
The consequences of all the apparently inconsequential things you do every day add up to make your history they all add up to define your outcomes.
Did you answer the phone, return a call, on the call did you look to just win or win, win, were you smiling, were you looking for opportunities to be better or rushing to get to your next meeting, did you try to help or try to sell?
The results you get in life are a result of many little things, at ActionCOACH we use the Identity Iceberg Principle to explain how who you think you are can have a massive impact on what you achieve.
People see how the decisions you make and how you behave drive the actions you take and those are what you and everyone else thinks are the things that drive your results.
Just like an iceberg though that is just the part that people see the part above the water, those are the part of you that are driven by the massive unseen part below the water.
Your Environment, who you surround yourself with, the books you read, the media you watch, the stories you listen to and the people whose advice you seek, listen to and take have a massive impact on who you think you are, your identity, this is the part of you that say “I AM”
Have you noticed how people who say, “I’m always late” are nearly always late and people who say “I am always on time” are nearly always on time?
Your identity drives your values, if being on time is important to you then you will mostly be on time if it’s not then you won’t.
Your values the things that are important to you could be manners, integrity, responsibility or commitment drive your beliefs. Beliefs are simply your paradigms anything that you hold to be true, a word of warning just because you believe it to be 100% true does not make it so, the world is not 6000 years old and yet there are people who will die to have the right to say it is.
Your beliefs, those things that you cling to drive what skills you learn and how you use them skills are simply learned behaviour that you deploy when making decisions, taking action and getting results.
If you want better performance if you want to write a different history start with your environment, read a book, get a mentor, challenge who you think you are, define your values and look at what you believe to be true and then learn some new skills.
