If your happy and you know and you really want to show it, well you know the song right.
The thing is, if your happy where you are, if there is nothing you really want to achieve, if you are not interested in being better, if you live in the perfect house for you and drive your dream car, if you aren’t motivated to make a difference in your own life then nothing I say or do will help you.
On the other hand, if you are motivated to make a difference then this may help.
Most people’s biggest barrier to phenomenal success is not the economy funding, marketing, sales, systems, recruitment, team engagement, it’s their own limited thinking.
Let’s talk about BHAG’s or Big Hairy Audacious Goals, Jim Collins and Jerry Porras in the book Built to Last came up with the title as a way of explaining the massive and sustained success of some businesses when compared to like businesses in like fields and markets.
Microsoft’s BHAG was a computer on every desk and in every home, at the time everyone thought this was ridiculous it would never happen and yet this has been surpassed and indeed it’s more like 3 computers per person.
The point of the BHAG is that it stops you thinking short term and small.
you’re not going to get a BHAG done in three years. You’re not going to get it done in five years. A really good BHAG probably has a minimum length of about a decade, and many take longer than that. Two decades. Three decades.
This means you are no longer managing for the next quarter but for the next quarter century.
If your goals are big enough they increase your sense of urgency. You look at what you want to achieve and say, “if we’re going to transform education or put a computer on every desk, then we have to get on with it today.”
The only way you can achieve something that big is to be absolutely obsessed, monomaniacal, with an overwhelming intensity and focus that starts today and never stops until you achieve it.
Landing on the Moon was one, NASA had to really operate at a superb level to achieve that. Henry Ford was trying to democratize the automobile, which required an exceptionally well-run company.
A BHAG helps you build a great company. Because if you don’t have a great company you can’t achieve the BHAG.
If you have a BHAG or want to get one, if you still have things you want to achieve, if you have a good company and need it to be great to deliver on your goals
Then lets have a conversation
