What is it that stops us doing the things we know we should?

This time of year, we hear about the spirit of Christmas, about happy people and children playing, we hear about peace of earth and goodwill to all and yet for anyone who has been shopping this week or sat in a traffic jam when no one would let them pull out at a junction we know that this is not always true.

This got me thinking about with a few exceptions nearly everyone wants to be happy this time of year, most of us want to be charitable and kind and bring joy to people and yet we push shove and scream at the car that just cut us up.

In a workshop at the beginning of this month a delegate kindly did a session on when Motivation isn’t enough about how she drives herself to achieve her personal goals and how she forces that to fit in with her busy business life.

So, if Motivation on its own is not the answer, to Quote the great Jim Rohn “motivation alone is not enough. if you have an idiot and you motivate him, now you have a motivated idiot”

The answer is stunningly simple, it’s a big enough goal that it makes you take action when you rather wouldn’t,  if you have a big enough reason to do something you will, if you don’t you won’t it really is that simple, here is the painful truth, if you don’t take the actions you should, if you don’t speak up when you really want to, if you don’t jump in and do what ever it takes to achieve your goal then you just didn’t care enough about the goal.

My reason is to help others achieve their dreams and to do that I support, educate and challenge them to be better, over the last month I have been delivering a series of seminars to the 6 form business studies students at a local Academy to help them prepare for their exam in January.

If I believe that what I know is that important it should be taught in schools, then guess what? Yep I teach it in schools for free because it is important to me.

What is it that’s so important to you that you would do it even if you didn’t get paid?
