Employee Happiness = Business Happiness

Following on from the presentation I gave on ‘Team Performance’ (pic below) at the beginning of the week, I thought it was an apt time to discuss the benefits of having a happy, motivated team who feel valued and are as passionate about the Business as you are.

One of the most important things when it comes to Business Success is ensuring that the whole team are working towards the same goal, have the same mission. Put simply, it is vital that each employee understands what they are doing, why they are doing it and how to do it in the best possible way for both them and the business as a whole.

As the business owner/manager it is up to you to set a clear company vision and have a thoroughly laid out and detailed plan as to how you will move the business from where it is now to where you want it to be, including the individual roles and targets of those involved. It’s no use just you knowing the plan, you have to communicate this to the wider team, either through weekly team or 1:1 meetings, target setting, KPIs etc.

It’s neither conducive or helpful if each team member is working towards differing goals, lacking synergy and receiving barely-there and inconsistent communication. This results in a lack of interest, confusion and feelings of inadequacy. If no-one is entirely sure what they are working towards with no clear plan to follow it is a recipe for laziness and minimal effort.

I’m sure we have all had times where we haven’t been entirely incentivised or passionate enough to do the best job that we could. Just as you are as the owner or manager, your employees are humans with lives, worries, gaps in training, needs and emotions. The simplest advice I can give is to treat them as such. Make them feel valued, included, understood by being flexible, remaining honest and building strong, authentic relationships with them. Work with them, ensuring they receive clear communication and empathetic, constructive leadership.

If you feel valued, are given the right incentives, are excited to go to work and don’t feel intimidated by your boss you are more likely to reflect this back through hard-work and genuine passion. Add a clear plan into the mix with specific and regularly revised targets and direction + a boss that treats you as though you are only human = an efficient, happy employee.

A Clear Plan & Incentives & Great Leadership = A Happy & Efficient Employee = Hard-work & Passion & Motivation = Business Success

Simple really, isn’t it? It all starts with the leader, filtering down to employee satisfaction which then impacts the end service or product.

Here’s to continued learning and improvement,
