😟 “Why don’t you turn up to my weekly meetings anymore?” was the question I asked one of my major-powerful stakeholders at Npower.

The answer was the best compliment I could’ve had from this lady. 

“I don’t need to. You’ve got all the processes in place. It always goes the way you say it will. You keep me in the loop at all stages. And if something goes wrong, you always fix it”.  

😁 Upgrading all of the back-end servers, databases and desktop software on all of Npower’s applications – An exercise that could have crippled the business if we’d messed up. It took a year to do.

In a £3.6bn company, these applications were critical. 

How did I get such support from the top execs in the company? 

⚡ We planned it all in advance.

⚡ We told them the plan.

⚡ If it changed, we kept them informed.

⚡ We had a plan in place if things went wrong.

⚡ We set expectations on what could be achieved.

⚡ We under-promised and over-delivered.

We couldn’t deliver such a complex piece of work without a solid plan, with solid people to execute it and solid processes to run it.

A great lesson learned.
