How mindful are you in your everyday life?

Mindfulness is ‘key’ to everything we do.  In simple terms mindfulness is all about being aware.  We live our lives using our unconscious brain to such a huge extent, that we forget to become mindful. Being aware is the one crucial variable that can determine success or failure in any endeavour.

New research in neuroscience and psychology, combined with eons-old knowledge about human behaviour, confirms that awareness changes everything.

When we become mindful of our thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, behaviours, and surroundings, then we can change them. But if we’re not aware of them, we can’t. We just keep sleepwalking along.

In fact, awareness itself changes behaviour, without any additional rules or instructions.

City traffic planners, for instance, have discovered that adding a countdown to pedestrian signals changes people’s desire to rush across the street at the last minute. Telling people how many seconds they have left to cross actually changes their behaviour.
