How are you playing your game?
Fishing with dad!
Starting the journey
I want to share with you an exciting story that happened with my friend Derrick while fishing with his Dad. They were on a fishing trip. Thought they were spending quality family time, Derrick’s Dad was catching lots of fish, while he wasn’t. Derrick was trying harder and harder, yet the same results.
Dad noticed that Derrick was getting annoyed; he said, let me help you. You will be able to grab loads of fish using this fly. Brilliant, Derrick was so excited, used it, threw it in the water, and Oh My God! He got his first catch, another one, and another one. Derrick was over the moon; I am excellent at fishing.
Improving performance
What a fantastic achievement Dad said. How different was this fly from the one you were using? They are, aren’t they, said Derrick, but looking at them in his father’s hands, he noticed they are the same. All that Dad did was he took Derrick’s attention from catching fish to the performance of the actual fly. That Made Derrick optimistic concentrating on matching his Dad’s game. Ultimately he had different results, a better mindset and a better experience. I can see his eyes sparkling while telling me that story how much it meant to him. We all need similar triggers to keep us going, especially during COVID.
Don’t we all need that?
We need to think differently. Disappointment and overwhelm and uncertainty are there, how helping being in such a mental state is? I think it isn’t the case. Then let us see how we can adapt to an ever-changing environment, accept it, and find ways to overcome it.
The Story’s Moral
The moral of the story is two things:
- It would be best if you have the right mindset, be positive, a vision that you want to achieve. Visualise it, see it, say it, hear it, celebrate it, make your brain believe it and it will happen.
- Think about how you are playing your game rather than making it work.
