To go back (to the office) or not to go back, that is the question..

Apologies for the take-off from Hamlet, but there are reports in the press  that government is considering making working from home the default position rather than going to an office.

Assuming people in your business can work from home, then how viable is this? Massive cost savings on premises, wider net for potential team members with the right skills, no commuting costs or stress, family-friendly, flexibility for team members, and so on. Downsides? Less effective relationships at work, poor informal learning opportunities for team members, younger workers at a disadvantage, building common work culture and more. There are many unanswered questions including hybrid versions; but the pressure is really on you, the business owner if  home working is an option.

How is your business set up? What do your people want? What about dealing with customers and suppliers? How confident are you that your team will perform from home on a permanent basis? How will you set and maintain the culture and values you want? How will you train your people? Answers on a postcard…….
