We often hear about the power of belief and how it can help us in business as well as in our personal lives.
There are no doubt many people who dont believe in this and many who do.
Some will have experienced it – others not so.
As a personal believer of using daily affirmations, visualising achievement, milestones and goals and believing in the ‘power of belief’, I was really interested to read this recent article.
Zharnel Hughes, Great Britain athlete, has just set a new British 200m mark of 19.73 seconds at his home Diamond League meeting in London.
His latest record comes just one month after he also broke Linford Christie’s long-standing 100m mark.
Talking about these results and his mindset, he stated – “It depends how I am feeling and, if I know I am in good shape, I just write down a time and I use that time as a target.”
“I don’t care about winning as long as I execute the plan that my coach wanted and we get the British record. I wanted to do it here on home soil and I did it.”
On this theme, as a coach, I often talk to my clients about IVVMs, which are:
I – idealise/create an idea
V – visualise it
V – verbalise it – tell someone about it
M – materialise – make it happen
Linked to that great Henry Ford quote – “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”, clearly the power of belief has to be a positive state of mind.
Create your target, dream of the outcome or results, then plan, train, practice, prepare, tell others and then most importantly – believe in yourself/back yourself and you might just be pleasantly surprised at the outcome….
