Introduction
People often ask me, “How did you become a business coach?” It’s a question that takes me back to my early life, where the seeds of my entrepreneurial journey were sown.
I grew up in a working-class family, surrounded by everyday jobs in education and emergency services. Our neighborhood was modest, but I had the privilege of attending a school where well-off families sent their children. This stark contrast created a unique perspective on life for me. In this blog post, I will take you through my journey from those early days to becoming a successful business coach.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad Perspective
At school, I had both rich and less privileged friends, akin to the “rich dad, poor dad” scenario described in the famous book. The divide between these two worlds puzzled me as a child. While my family was not on the poverty line, I couldn’t grasp why some people were wealthy, while others struggled. This disparity left me with a sense of unease and a determination to understand and bridge the gap.
Gratitude for Perspective
Looking back, I’m eternally grateful for having experienced both extremes of life. It provided me with a unique perspective and a drive to succeed. It was during this time that I made a conscious decision at a very young age: I wanted to be successful and achieve financial prosperity like the other kids at my school.
The Path of Hard Work
However, the challenge I faced was that I had no idea how to achieve this ambition. But one thing was clear – I was ready to work hard to make it happen. My journey started at the age of 13 when I took my first job at Fishwick Hall Golf Club. While the name might sound posh, it was situated in one of the most economically deprived areas of Preston. I worked on Sundays, washing pots for a meager £3.30 per hour, which amounted to £9.90 at the end of each shift. Tips were given by patrons, but they all went into the “end of year night out jar,” which I couldn’t access because I was too young.
Progress and Ambition
My second job involved washing pots at a slightly more upscale establishment, where I earned £4 per hour. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was a step up. Things changed for me at 16 when I landed a job as a lifeguard. I continued in this role until I was 18, at which point I left for university with a clear ambition: I wanted to be successful.
Conclusion
My early jobs and experiences provided me with a strong work ethic, determination, and the drive to achieve my goals. Today, I’ve turned those lessons into a thriving career as a business coach. My journey from a modest background to a determined and ambitious individual has shaped who I am today, and I’m passionate about sharing this unique perspective with others to help them achieve their own success.
Becoming a business coach was not something I initially planned, but it evolved naturally from my life experiences. It’s a testament to the power of hard work and the pursuit of one’s ambitions. In my role as a business coach, I’m dedicated to helping others discover their potential and guiding them on the path to success.
If you’re curious about how I became a business coach, it’s a story of ambition, determination, and the willingness to take on any job to make my dreams a reality. It’s a journey that has shaped who I am today and continues to drive my passion for helping others succeed.
