Although I still have lots to learn, I’d like to think that I know a thing or two about what it takes to thrive as a business owner. I’ve developed a few habits that help me in business, and listed below are some working habits that I’ve seen appear in many successful business owners I know:

Get up early

I know most people won’t like this one, but a lot of focused work is done between 5am and 7am. It’s a time where you haven’t got the distractions of emails, phone calls, etc. and you can just knuckle down with either client work or things that you wouldn’t usually have the time to do.

Don’t get distracted

This one’s tricky, but successful business owners can ignore distractions like emails, notifications and phone calls, and get the most important work done first. By conquering the toughest tasks first you’ll feel like a weight’s been lifted.

Obsess over value, not the customer

People say to obsess over the customer and revolve your business around them. However, I find that there’s no better way than obsessing over delivering value, measuring value and increasing value in everything you do.

Take care of yourself

Running a business can easily take over – it’s really demanding and mentally stressful. It’s important to take time to recharge those batteries and refuel through things like healthy eating, exercise, and enough sleep and rest.

By taking care of yourself you’ll see that your productivity at work will increase.

Get out of the office

With technology these days, many business owners run their company without actually interacting face to face with other human beings. But if you want to grow, learn and understand, it’s vital to get out of the office and interact with other people. Go for lunch with a customer, attend a conference and attend industry events. It’s the best way of finding new perspectives and opportunities to develop and learn.
