I had built my business to the point where we had a good and growing portfolio of clients and were beginning to build a strong reputation for customer-focused service. However, I felt that we were working crazily hard but, however hard we worked, we did not seem able to really grow the revenue and profitability at the rate we would have liked.
I asked Neil to coach me on how to take the business forward. In the initial coaching sessions, Neil asked lots of great questions and listened to what we were saying so that his guidance was very much tailored to us. We covered a wide range of brilliant things from simple but effective time management techniques through to understanding the key “levers” that I could use to develop the business effectively.
The most important lesson that Neil taught me was to be more aware of all the extra things that we did for clients free “as part of the service”. This made me realise that I was undervaluing the service that we were delivering.
So, we then developed and implemented a set of value-add services which I could then market to my client base and, more importantly, charge additional fees for.
The result is that, for our latest financial year, we saw excellent growth in a difficult market with an increase of 16.4% in revenue and 29.7% in profit.
