Developing Yourself For Success
Developing Yourself For Success
Why Working on Yourself Is the Most Important Goal in Business
One of the key things I teach business owners is the power of goal-setting. But not just business goals like revenue targets or sales growth, I’m talking about something even more foundational: personal development.
There’s a quote I often share from Jim Rohn, one of the greatest business coaches of all time. He said:
“Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.”
At first glance, that might sound backwards. Shouldn’t success come from pouring everything into your business? In part, yes. But here’s the truth: you can’t build a great business without building yourself along the way.
Too many people stop growing the moment they leave formal education. They jump into work and think the answer is to just work harder and longer. While hard work matters, it only gets you so far. Without self-development, that journey becomes much slower, and a lot more difficult.
As a business owner, your growth sets the ceiling for your business’s growth. Want to become a better leader? You’ve got to learn leadership. Struggling with sales? It’s a skill you can improve. Need better marketing results? You can study what works. Whether it’s people management, communication, or strategy, every challenge in business is tied to a personal skill you can develop.
And the best part? You don’t have to do it alone.
That’s why I host a free weekly Business Club. It’s a space for business owners to come together, learn something new, and have meaningful conversations around topics that move the needle, like leadership, sales, and mindset. We take a subject each week, often with a great book as a starting point, and explore what makes the real difference in that area.
If you’re ready to take your development seriously and have a little fun while doing it, why not join us?
