Setting the Vision for your Business

What Is a Business Alignment – And Why Does It Matter?

Every new client I take on start with a business alignment. The alignment is about seeing where the business is now and what the vision for the business from the clients position. As a business coach, these sessions are a core part of how I help owners take control of their companies and I thought I’d give you a quick behind-the-scenes look.

The room’s all set up: materials ready, flipcharts prepared, and a full day ahead of us to map out not just where the business is going, but how we’re going to get there.

So, what exactly is a business alignment?

It starts with a simple observation: most business owners launch their companies without ever writing a full business plan. In my experience, maybe 10% actually take the time to create one. And even fewer track their goals against it consistently.

That’s where business alignment comes in.

The client and I will work together to lay out a clear, practical business plan. But we go deeper than just strategy. We align the personal goals of the business owner with the objectives of the business itself. After all, the business exists to serve your life, not the other way around.

We’ll ask questions like:

  • What do you want your business to look like in 12 months?
  • What personal goals do you want to achieve alongside your business success?
  • What actions need to happen daily, weekly, and monthly to make those goals real?

And here’s the key part: once the plan is created, we don’t stop there. Over the next 12–18 months, we work on those goals together. My role isn’t just to support the business owner, it’s to hold them accountable. To be the mirror, the sounding board, and sometimes the push they need to stay focused and follow through.

A client asked me recently, “Is it really that simple, just set the goals and stick to them?”

The answer is: yes. It really can be that simple. When you work the plan, you move the business forward. Revenue grows. Profit increases. You gain control.

That’s the power of business alignment, clarity, focus, and execution.
