The Power Of Putting A Business Plan Together
The Power Of Putting A Business Plan Together
As a coach, one of my absolute favourite days is the very first business alignment session with a client. It’s the moment when we stop, step back, and take a clear-eyed look at where the business really is and where it needs to go. Today, I had the privilege of guiding a client through this exact process.
This particular client is intelligent, motivated, and already two years into running their business. On the surface, things looked good: turnover was happening, the team had grown to three employees, and there was clear potential. But underneath, the business wasn’t profitable. Despite all the hard work, there was no consistent salary for the owner, and the constant worry of bills hanging over them. It’s a crossroads that so many entrepreneurs face:
Should I keep going? How do I grow without burning out? How do I finally make money from this?
That’s why the alignment day is so powerful. It brings clarity. Early in the session, I asked a simple but critical question: What are the three biggest priorities we must achieve in the next three months? For this client, the number one priority was obvious – sort out the finances. Together, we built a real budget, examined the numbers, and mapped out how to shift from just turning over money to actually making money.
By the end of the day, something remarkable had happened. The client walked away not just with a plan, but with renewed energy and belief: “I can make this work.” That spark, the mix of clarity, excitement, and confidence, is why I love these sessions so much.
Because alignment isn’t just about spreadsheets or strategies. It’s about reconnecting business owners with the vision they had when they first started. It’s about turning uncertainty into direction, and frustration into action. And most importantly, it’s about creating a roadmap that makes running the business not only sustainable, but enjoyable again.
The first step to fixing a struggling business is always the same: create a plan. With that, the journey of turning a business into the dream it was meant to be can finally begin. That’s why alignment days will always be one of my favourite parts of coaching, they’re where transformation truly starts.
