For your business to succeed, you as a business owner need to exhibit many different qualities.

So what is Leaderhip?

Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organisation. Leadership in business is about planning where you and your team have to be in order to achieve the goals of your business. A leader however, must use the correct management skills and qualities, in order to guide their people towards each goal.

  1. Be a role model

If you want your team to work hard and produce top draw work, then you need to lead by example. One of the best ways to motivate your staff is by working alongside everyone else. By doing this, you will show you are committed to the business and this will help you earn respect. If you’re business is at a level where you can take a step back from the day-to-day activity (and that’s the level that I as a business coach help you to reach), then you’ll have a Manager or Team Leader that covers this role.

  1. Have passion

Show you are passionate about your business. Great leaders are not just focused on the end goals but they have a genuine passion and drive for the projects their team works on. This can be done by expressing your views on the project or compleminting a contribution from a one of your staff.

  1. Don’t neglect communication

Without clear communication, your employees will not understand your goals. Your workforce wants to work towards something they believe in, so they need to understand the visions of your company. Communication is a necessary ingredient, whether you are giving feedback or training a new member of staff, you must be clear and informative.

  1. Delegate well

If you do not learn to trust your team with your vision, then you may never reach your goals. The key to delegation is identifying the strengths of your team members. Find out what each member enjoys the most. If someone enjoys a certain part of their job they are much more likely to put more effort into it. This will also show your team that you trust them and will free up your time to focus on other areas of the business.

  1. Show confidence

Employees are naturally drawn to people with confidence. If you have confidence your team members will seek your advice and believe in the goals you set. If you are challenged then do not give in easily, show that you are confident in your own abilities. If you are proven wrong, accept responsibility, it is not a bad thing.

These are just 5 qualities a leader needs. However, having these skills does not guarantee you ‘perfect leadership’. Even the business leaders of today make mistakes, and it is learning from these mistakes that show what fantastic leaders they are.
