It is fair to say that we have been through fairly challenging times.

After a long period spent within the unknown limbo of the ‘B’ word, then throw in some Covid, global unrest, so on…..we find ourselves potentially feeling like we are in a tumble dryer of ongoing issues.

My work takes me into many businesses and I get to meet many business people, from front line staff through to business owners.

I am most definitely hearing and seeing varying levels of anxiety about what do these national/global issues really mean?

And importantly…….

How will it affect me, my job, my home life and so on?

This is therefore the right time for strong leadership.

Who can I turn to in times of need – my line manager, my superior, my colleague, but hopefully my business leader?

Staff want and in all honesty, need, to see strong and consistent leadership to guide them through the many twists and turns that the next few weeks/months will deliver.

Staff might be asking:

Will the company survive?

What has been put in place to ensure we  are paid, receive our bonus, perhaps even get a payrise?

Should I attend the conference next week?

What contingency plans are in place?

Its certainly not all doom and gloom – far from it, however have you and your business prepared for the requirements of your staff, your co-workers, your clients and so on?

We spend time preparing for stock shortages, rebranding or delayed manufacture – but now is the time to prepare your management and leaders for the human side – the various needs and wants of the human, akin to Maslows motivational needs.

Understand your staff, talk to them, be proactive and take some time this week to sit down and allay any concerns or fears.

Be supportive and understanding. Be the leader, be the manager that is needed in these tough times.

Reinforce the team ethos. Provide people with pillars of support and a create a positive environment.

Be Strong.

Be Positive.

Communicate clearly – be the Leader that is needed right now!
