Planning to return to work

Business admin tasks

As businesses slowly come out of lockdown, planning how it is implemented is crucial for the safety of their employees.

In this video, I discuss how some clients are looking to do this.

Business admin tasks: The Desai Despatch – Episode 18

(JK) So we have been in two months of lockdown, in your experience and maybe thanks to your help,

what have your clients been doing during lockdown to better their business?

(FD) Different businesses have been affected differently over this period and they have all reacted differently as well.

In the beginning, there was panic, but once things calmed down a little bit and they realised there was some business, but not as before, I think the question was

What else can I do?

Having spoken to various clients over the weeks, depending on where they were in certain areas, I suggested they should be working on their business more at the moment.

They could really do a lot of groundwork before we come out of this, so they are in a stronger position than their peers.

With one client, I asked

When was the last time you looked at your database?

and he said

Oh, I haven’t done that for a while!

So they did a really good clear up of their database, were able to put them into different categories and looked at their top clients. That was quite a big project that they got out of the way.

Another client looked at their systems and processes because I always talk to them about systems and how that is such a big time saver.

We do some work together but again it needs regular updating, which they hadn’t done. That was a big job as well which is quite a tedious thing to do but at this time, they had the time and they could do it without worrying about the day to day business.

Another client had another big task, which was looking at their competition and analysing their competition. Again, they don’t often have time to do this and they hadn’t actually thought of it because they were so busy just trying to run their own business. So, I suggested

Just look at what your competition is doing and see where you sit within the competition.

By doing these things, I believe and they believe as well that they are in a stronger position as we come out of this because they can now really focus on the core business, the day to day in the business which is obviously the priority.

(JK) It seems to me that these jobs which are easy to ignore, you have helped the businesses to focus on and actually rather crucial.

Presumably, they have discovered that without doing that sort of thing, they wouldn’t have prepared themselves nearly as well for what happens next.

(FD) Yes, they are jobs, but they are strategic jobs actually which if you want to continue growing the business and continuously improve those things have to be done regularly. There was time to do these things and they were glad that they were able to do them.

(JK) Yes and I guess in the longer term it will give them a lot more confidence when they look back and see what they have done and things fit into the jigsaw much better in fact.

(FD) Absolutely.

(JK) Sounds great. Thank you once again Falguni.

(FD) Thank you.
