The Value of Focus Sheets

The Value of Focus Sheet

We know that to monitor progress, we should track our actions. However, we don’t always do that regularly.

This results in disjointed information and we can’t see the true picture of our efforts.

In this video, I explain how I help my clients keep track of their continued progress.

The Desai Despatch – Episode 22

(JK) Hello again Falguni

(FD) Hello Jeremy

(JK) A lot of your businesses get on with their business and often it’s a fairly emotional thing, but I’m sure that there are occasions when you need to tell your clients what to do about organising themselves and in particular, monitoring and tracking what is actually going on. Do you have any examples of that kind of thing happening with your clients at the moment?

(FD) Yes, all my clients from when they start working with me have to complete what I call a focus sheet for each coaching session. I see clients either every two weeks or once a month on a one to one basis. For each session, there has to be a focus sheet that they have completed and sent to me the night before so that I know what they have achieved between our last session and the one coming up. The sort of things that are on that is the two or three goals that they want to achieve between the two sessions.

What their challenges might have been during that time, what their greatest focus has been when they are working on their business as opposed to in their business during that time.

What else they’ve been working on and also what their motivation levels are like during that time because it is very important to have the right mindset in order to continue working with a positive mind frame.

(JK) In terms of the actual outcome of this approach, what sort of changes have you seen happening from particular clients?

(FD) At the end of a coaching session, clients will decide and tell me at the end of that session what two or three things they want to achieve, the goals they want to achieve for the next session. One client was a bit wary of making phone calls to particular prospects because that is what she is a little bit fearful of. So that was the goal that she was going to make a few phone calls between now and the next session.

The Value of Focus Sheets

The day before she sent me her focus sheet, that goal had been achieved. It has been achieved in part because she had said she was going to call 10 prospects, but she called five, but at least she went some way in doing that because otherwise, she could have just been sort of left and not happened at all.

(JK) I guess the great thing about that, of course, is that you can see progress, so particularly if you have an issue with something and there is room for your own personal professional improvement. Then you can see it and it actually provides you with a certain amount of comfort and encouragement and motivation and drive. The focus, in particular, is a really, really good idea. Thank you so much for that
Falguni.

(FD) Thank you.
