I have just finished reading Bradley Wiggins latest book “my time” Whether you admire him or find him a bit annoying it doesn’t really matter as everyone is different. But one thing you can’t take away from him is his focus. 2012 was a year of firsts for Bradley, everything just went right for him. The early season tours, the Tour De France and of course the Olympic time trial, but none of this was an accident.

There are many parallels made between business and sport. They include league tables, performance measures, statistics, common goal etc and Bradley’s year was no exception to this. There was total clarity about what the team were trying to achieve, a very publicly stated goal when they formed the Sky team. They would have a clean British rider win the tour within 5 years. Every person in the team during the 2012 tour knew they were there to make sure Bradley could win, total dedication and clarity to one goal. They had a confidence about them because they had put the work in. They had done the training, looked at the stats and taken a continuous improvement approach to their whole team training, taken apart everything they did and rebuilt it getting 1% better each week until they knew they were at the peak of their performance.

Who else can say that, have you looked at what works and what does not, is there clarity for you and your team, for what you are trying to achieve. Does everyone believe in the goal, the purpose and the part they can plan in achieving it? If you are ever struggling with your business take a look at sport and see how you can improve a bit at a time, consistently, week in, week out to achieve your goals.
