I have never met anyone in business who said “I want a business coach” What they want is the results that come from working with one.
In the same way that nobody really wants a drill, they want hole. One is the tool, the other is the result of working with the tool.
Athletes the world over have a coach to help them improve their game, keep them focussed, motivated, driven, held to account to do the training, remind them why they are doing what they do and ultimately to keep them at the top of their game. The decision for them is not do I need a coach but at what level of performance do they want to operate.
So whats different in business?
Business is tough enough without trying to do it alone, but ask yourself who are you surrounded by? Family, well they normally say its a good idea because they don’t want to upset you. Your employees, well they say its a good idea because you are the boss. So are you surrounded by people with a vested interest rather than a critical but supportive friend!
So what do you want from your support network?
- More time
- Accountability
- FocusStrategy
- Reflection
- Motivation
- Planning
- Improved team
- More profitability
- Vision, goals, direction
- or just freedom of choice?
Coaching can offer business owners all of the above but if focusses on what you want.
I was once told I was a “master at stating the bloody obvious“, but interestingly it was the obvious they hadn’t done, because they hadn’t been able to see the obvious.
Be clear about what you want from your business then perhaps a business coach is part of the solution.
