Digital marketing: Level up your digital marketing strategy in 2021

Part 3: Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is an essential business tool. Like it or not, in this digital age, you need to be up on social media. This instalment of our digital marketing blog series gives you a rundown of how to kickstart your social media marketing in 2021.

Choose your channels

Where do your target customers hang out online?

Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok?

Social media was used by 45 million people in the UK in 2019. The lockdowns and social distancing introduced in 2020 only increased reliance on social media – for business, leisure and everything in between! It’s where your customers are, so it’s where you should be too!

  • Where is your target audience? – with the average person in 2020 owning 8 social media accounts, an omni-channel approach is usually needed.
  • Choose the 2 or 3 channels best suited to your target market.
  • Then set up your accounts.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the most powerful tool for B2B networking and lead generation.

Use LinkedIn to watch emerging developments in your industry by following relevant hashtags, keep an eye on your competitors, and expand your business network by engaging and connecting with other users and their content.

Post your own content on LinkedIn to build brand awareness and trust and generate traffic to your website – don’t sell, sell, sell. Add value and engage..

Facebook Ads – small budget, BIG impact!

Facebook Ads are a great starting point for low-cost, effective marketing campaigns as they enable you to set your objectives, approach specific targets and control your budget.

Bulk scheduling tools

Building your social media presence means posting relevant content regularly. This is where many business owners come unstuck. It’s hard to find time to say something on social media every day so planning a week or month’s posts in a batch can be more time efficient.

Thankfully, there are tools to help. Automate your social media posts with scheduling tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, ZohoSocial and Socialoomph.

Draft your posts in one go on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis and schedule them to post at a time that suits. Block time for content creation on your default diary.

Where to get free quality images

A picture is worth a thousand words, so an attention-grabbing image can stop people scrolling past your post. There are loads of places you can find copyright-free images and videos like Pexels, Pixabay and Unsplash.

Tools for monitoring multiple channels

Whatever channels you choose, measure your performance!

Most scheduling platforms include performance metrics (or you can access these directly from your platform), but the most efficient way to view and manage your stats is through third-party analytics like Zoho Social. Zoho Social gives you a dashboard to see activity on ALL of your social accounts all in one place.

Check out the fourth part of the blog series for more tips on measuring and maximising your performance.
